This scripture tells us that there is much food in uncultivated ground. In other words, ground that has not been seeded and properly maintained is only ground with potential. A harvest is not possible. After reading this scripture, it came to me that there is much potential in the uncultivated ground of people’s lives. Potential is what might be, what could be, but isn’t yet.

Once I saw a child who was very talented and someone standing nearby said, “He could be anything he wants to be when he grows up." But there is a great difference between having potential and fulfilling potential. The church is full of potential. Everyone has potential but it seems that there are few who actually fulfill it. Success hinges on small things. Sometimes just a little misdirection can get you to the wrong destination.

Once my friend was flying to a ministry meeting, he misread one of his gauges. He was only a couple of degrees off, but over the course of his flight, it made a great difference. When he arrived at his destination, the airport wasn’t there! He discovered a great truth. When you discover you’re off course, if you can change and correct your direction early in the flight, it’s much easier and more efficient than if you wait until you are near your destination.

If you examine your life and see God-given potential in uncultivated ground, the best time to cultivate the ground and develop your potential is now. The longer you wait, the greater the correction required.  So the conclusion is this. Revisit God’s call on your life and walk in that calling using all of your God-given potential. And do it now!
