Think back through your life and bless the Lord for all that He has done for you. Bless Him for His forgiveness, healing power, redemption, loving-kindness, provision, and for renewed strength that is available for you today. David, who wrote this Psalm, had bouts with sexual sin, murder, and even being hunted down and running for his life. I’m sure there must have been times when he didn’t feel like worshiping God. But still, we see him faithfully proclaiming the greatness of God. David even speaks to his own soul, demanding it to “Bless the Lord!” He reminds himself even in the worst possible times how good God is, remembering God’s blessings and benefits to him. Though our feelings or affections change, God’s character is never changing.

The Amplified Bible says, “Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul; and all that is [deepest] within me, bless His holy name! 2 Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul, and forget not [one of] all His benefits— 3 Who forgives [every one of] all your iniquities, Who heals [each one of] all your diseases, 4 Who redeems your life from the pit and corruption, Who beautifies, dignifies, and crowns you with loving-kindness and tender mercy; 5 Who satisfies your mouth [your necessity and desire at your personal age and situation] with good, so that your youth, is renewed, like the eagle’s [strong, overcoming, soaring]!”

Remember that in Jesus Christ, God has made a way for your complete forgiveness, healing, and restoration of life. Know that, in Christ, God has removed your sin entirely.

Don’t forget all His benefits!!!
