As I pray with and counsel many, there seems to be an epidemic of those battling depression.  In Psalm 143:3 David describes depression as feeling like "dark places as those who have been long dead."  that sounds awful!  However, I found myself in depression several times in my 73+ years.  I personally believe that Satan is the cause of depression.   In Psalm 143 David describes his plight and gives us steps to walk out of the depression the devil wants to put on us.

 

Depression is defined as a mental health disorder characterized by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life.

 

In Psalm 143:4  David recognizes that depression steals life and light.  The devil is always trying to oppress you.  He is always trying to fill your mind with darkness and gloom.

 

In Psalm 143:5 One of David's responses to his condition was to remember the good times. When we remember, meditate, and ponder we are working our minds.  Our thoughts affect our feelings.

 

In Psalm 143:6  David praises the Lord in the midst of the problem.  The Lord inhabits the praises of His people.

 

In Psalm 143:7  David asks God for help. God was the only one who could bring me out of my depression.

In Psalm 143:8 David listens to the Lord.  Nothing is better than a Word from God!

 

In Psalm 143:9 David prays for deliverance.  We serve a Might God and is our deliverer.
